Key Aspects of the Alliance
Political and Diplomatic Alignment: The three nations consistently support each other on core national interests in international forums. Turkey and Pakistan staunchly back Azerbaijan’s position on the Karabakh region (which was reclaimed in 2020), while Azerbaijan and Turkey support Pakistan’s stance on the Kashmir conflict and Turkey’s position on Northern Cyprus. This mutual support is rooted in shared cultural, historical, and religious ties.
Defense Cooperation: Military collaboration has become a cornerstone of the alliance. The countries held their first-ever joint military drill, the “Three Brothers” exercises, in 2021. This cooperation extends to defense industry procurement and technology transfer, with Azerbaijan purchasing JF-17C Block III fighter jets from Pakistan and participating in the development of Turkey’s fifth-generation Kaan fighter jet program.
Economic and Connectivity Projects: Leaders are focused on enhancing trade and leveraging their geographical locations for regional  connectivity. Trade and Investment: Azerbaijan has invested heavily in Turkey, and plans are underway for substantial Azerbaijani investment in Pakistan’s economy. The countries aim to significantly increase their trilateral trade volume.
Transport Corridors: They are exploring cooperation on major transport routes, including the Middle Corridor (Trans-Caspian International Transport Route) and the North-South Transport Corridor, to boost trade linking China, Central Asia, and Europe.

Institutionalization: The leaders agreed to elevate their cooperation to the heads-of-state level during a summit in Lachin, Azerbaijan, in May 2025, with a plan to institutionalize this format through regular meetings and concrete action plans across various sectors, including counter-terrorism.
Regional Geopolitics
The alliance is seen as a counterweight to other regional partnerships, notably an emerging India-Iran-Armenia alignment. The “three brothers” format strengthens their collective position in the South Caucasus and South Asia, aiming to create an independent power axis in Eurasia. This evolving dynamic is a response to shifting global power structures and the need for middle powers to form new partnerships to address shared security and economic challenges.
