Malinowski and the theft: Sources describe Malinowski as the organizer of the Louvre heist, with stolen items reportedly surfacing in Moscow. He is also a former French Legion soldier. Malinowski has been portrayed in Russian propaganda as a French citizen who “escaped from decaying Europe”.
The Russian-French Historical Foundation: The foundation was co-founded by Malinowski, is supported by various Russian ministries, and is also connected to oligarch Konstantin Malofeev. The Lansing Institute has alleged that Moscow uses the foundation for intelligence operations to infiltrate France’s political circles.
Peskova’s role: As the vice-president of the foundation, Elizaveta Peskova, who has been sanctioned by the U.S. and EU, holds a “lucrative position” thanks to her father’s connections.
