Does Israel use the “Menendez Affair” and the option to cut the financial aide (which is quite modest) to Egypt to manipulate and pressure the Egyptian position into more desirable for Israel direction in the Gaza war? Was it the purpose of this affair to start with? Did Russia and Cuba (Menendez’ opponents) orchestrated this affair under the Israeli (and others) covers, and was it planned in advance, as part of the Russian plot to arrange the Gaza Pogrom with the substantial help and participation from the Wagner Group? Putin deceived Israel with the false promises of “Intelligence Cooperation”, dangling the Menendez Affair as the bate, convenient for both; and then he stabbed Israel in the back on October 7, 2023. This is my interpretation and understanding of these events which appear to be closely related: the Menendez case and the Gaza war. – Quote: “The [Menendez] affair tarnished the reputation of the Egyptian government precisely when it needs economic backing from the U.S. and as Congress is exerting pressure on the issue of aid.” Egypt’s al-Sissi Called Early Elections to Save the Country’s Economy – Egypt – http://Haaretz.comhttps://haaretz.com/middle-east-news/egypt/2023-09-29/ty-article/.premium/egypts-al-sissi-called-early-elections-to-save-the-countrys-economy/0000018a-df68-d7e5-a9fb-df6ced690000…

I think that this article (published on September 28, 2023) is the part of the anti-Menendez campaign, orchestrated by the “Unholy Alliance” of Russia, Turkey, Israel, and Azerbaijan for their own purposes. To me, this article also feels largely ghost-written or ghost-inspired itself. It is quite possible that this anti-Menedez campaign was a part of the larger package of preparations for the October 7, 2023 Gaza Pogrom (or Revolt) by Russia, and one if its purposes was to blacken Egypt in the public eyes. And now “Egypt does not want to help Gazans”, according to this mentality. I posted on this article soon after it appeared, in the similar vein to this post. And these impressions of mine only strengthened after the events of the October 7. Now I have my doubts about the objectivity and impartiality of the website “Just Security”, where this article was published. I think that this website and the whole anti-Menendez affair should be the focus of the very careful attention by the US Counterintelligence Services. Michael Novakhov | 8:14 AM 11/21/2023

The Biden administration is considering designating the Wagner Group, a Russian private military group, as a foreign terrorist organization amid ongoing efforts to impose costs on Russia for the Ukraine war, a US official said.
No final decision has been made, and it is unclear how far out the administration is from potentially making this designation given the laborious legal process in making this determination, the official explained.
The Wagner Group is a mercenary firm that has been heavily involved in the fighting in Ukraine. The group is often described as President Vladimir Putin’s off-the-books troops. It has expanded its footprint globally since its creation in 2014. The group has been accused of war crimes in Africa, Syria and Ukraine.
The group was founded by a Russian oligarch, Yevgeny Prigozhin, which he admitted to earlier this year. Prigozhin is so close to the Kremlin that he is known as Putin’s “chef.”
The group is already sanctioned by the US, but the Biden administration has its sights on labeling it a terrorist organization amid pressure – both from the Ukrainians and from Congress – to declare Russia as a state sponsor of terror due to the invasion of Ukraine and the constant attacks on the civilian population.
“As Ukraine continues to seize momentum on the battlefield, President Putin has focused his ire and his fire on Ukraine’s civilian population,” US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said at a news conference Wednesday at the NATO foreign ministers meeting in Bucharest, Romania, noting that Putin’s targets are heat, water and electricity. “This brutalization of Ukraine’s people is barbaric.”
The Biden administration has so far resisted efforts to label Russia as a state sponsor of terror, making the case that it would be a largely symbolic designation that could create obstacles when it comes to getting support into Ukraine, particularly through the Black Sea.
“We have to take into account the consequences, both the intended and the unintended. And that has led us to the approach we’ve taken here,” State Department spokesperson Ned Price said earlier this year.
The conversations regarding Wagner are currently happening within a small group of US officials, and no final decision has been made.
“I have no discussions to confirm on this. The United States will continue to hold those responsible for perpetrating Russia’s war against Ukraine to account,” a State Department spokesperson said when asked about the discussions.
Earlier this year, Ukraine’s Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov told CNN that Wagner troops were being deployed in the “most difficult and important missions” in Ukraine, playing a key role in Russian victories in Mariupol and Kherson.
CNN has reported on plummeting morale in the private army as Russia’s Ukraine war falters.

The shock attack was a long-planned operation for the ‘1000% committed’ Hamas commanders — yet orders were passed down at the last momentOne month after the start of Israel’s war against Hamas, The Guardian released a report explaining who was in charge of the October 7 attack, how the massacres were organized and what the terrorists viewed as their…
The Oct. 7 Hamas massacre will never be forgotten. It has been forever seared on to the heart and soul of every Jew. It is a source of anguish and a guide for generations to come.
There has been little comment, however, on the fact that, just like the Yom Kippur War in 1973 had heavy Russian involvement, so did the slaughter on Oct. 7.
On July 20, 2022, Russian President Vladimir Putin flew to Iran to strengthen ties between the two countries. On Aug. 16 of this year, Putin held a Zoom conference with Iranian officials to “reaffirm support for further developing bilateral ties in trade, transport, logistics and energy,” as reported by Russian news agency TASS.
One doesn’t have to read between the lines to see that Russia is fully allied with Iran on all fronts. Iran supplies Russia with drones, missiles and oil. Russia shares technology with Iran and gives it military assistance.
The Oct. 7 attack was planned for at least two years. It is not a coincidence that Hamas attacked 50 years after the Yom Kippur War almost to the day. Arab terrorists like to wreak havoc on anniversaries. This has always been their calling card. They chose another Jewish holiday to do their depraved deed.
There will be many conspiracy theories about how Israel was caught flat-footed. Israel will do a very thorough analysis. There are many questions that need to be answered. For example, how did Hamas obtain maps of IDF bases? Where was the IDF for so many hours after the assault began? What were the intelligence failures that led to the infiltration?
I believe Hamas coordinated the Times Square rally held on Oct. 8 knowing full well that they were going to attack on Oct. 7. This is consistent with the fact that reporters from Reuters and AP accompanied the Hamas terrorists on Oct. 7. Hamas coordinated the attack with the disinformation campaign and rallies in the United States and around the world that followed.
The New York Post’s report on American-born tech entrepreneur Neville Roy Singham, who has shelled out over $20 million to the People’s Forum, which organized the Oct. 8th rally, is a strong indication that Hamas was behind it.
Singham is a Marxist who lives in China. He is connected to at least four propaganda news sites that support the Chinese Communist Party. According to The New York Times and quoted in The New York Post, the People’s Forum is calling for “more marches, walkouts, sit-ins and other forms of direct action directed at the political offices, businesses and workplaces that fund, invest and collaborate” with Israel.
The Russian connection to Oct. 7 took the form of the cyber-warfare technology given to the Iranians and Hamas. Hamas’s “blinding plan” to take down Israel’s high tech “iron wall,” neutralizing long-range cameras, sophisticated sensors, multiple alarm systems and remote-control weapons was almost certainly aided by Russia’s cyber expertise. Having spoken to cyber experts, I believe only Russia could have made it happen.
Clearly, we have entered a new age in which cyber is the new tank on the battlefield and the new fighter jet in the sky. Unless America and Israel are one step ahead of the new Axis of Evil in the cyber-warfare sphere, no one is safe.

A week after Azerbaijan seized Nagorno-Karabakh, residents in Armenia exclaves worry whether their hometowns will face a similar fate. Armenia and Azerbaijan have fought two wars over Nagorno-Karabakh, in the nineties and in 2020.
This year, after Azerbaijan’s lightning offensive, Baku took total control of the region that lies within its borders. Up until a few months ago, it was dominated by ethnic Armenians. Now, most residents have fled to Armenia. After the second Karabakh War, which ended with an agreement facilitated by Russia, Armenia agreed to allow a land connection between Azerbaijan and Nakhichevan.
While Azerbaijan and Russia claim that the road was meant to be outside of Armenia’s control, overseen by the Russian Federal Security Service, or FSB, Armenia rejects this interpretation. In Yerevan’s view, the agreement was made at the time when Azerbaijan was blocking Armenia’s only land connection to Nagorno-Karabakh and was meant as part of mutual concessions. But as Azerbaijan began a nine-month blockade of the area in December 2022, effectively cutting ethnic Armenians off the outside world, and eventually recapturing the area, Armenia does not feel obliged to meet its part of the agreement.
That is despite Azerbaijan’s claim that it can only benefit from the deal. “Armenia will be able to benefit from the developing trade in the region and all trade projects that are likely to be realised in the future,” Kanan Heydarov, a political analyst from Azerbaijan said.
“It will be able to make great economic gains. As it is known, Armenia has not been able to benefit from many big trade projects developed in the region so far.” In recent years, Azerbaijan’s president, Ilham Aliyev, began to refer to Armenia as “Western Azerbaijan”. He also started calling for the creation of the “Zangezur Corridor”, a highway linking Azerbaijan with Nakhichevan along the former Soviet rail track. “The Zangezur Corridor is a historical necessity,” Aliyev said last January adding that it will be created whether Armenia wants it or not.
Earlier, in 2021, the President threatened to establish it by force. Following Azerbaijan’s victory over Nagorno-Karabakh, which led to an almost full exodus of its Armenian population, locals—and some experts—fear that Azerbaijan might bring its plan to life by force.

Israel and Hamas are close to agreement on a U.S.-brokered deal that would free dozens of women and children held hostage in Gaza in exchange for a five-day pause in fighting, say people familiar with the emerging terms.
The release, which could begin within the next several days — barring last-minute hitches — could lead to the first sustained pause in conflict in Gaza.
A detailed, six-page set of written terms would require all parties to the conflict to freeze combat operations for at least five days while an initial 50 or more hostages are released in smaller batches every 24 hours. It was not immediately clear how many of the 239 people believed to be in captivity in Gaza would be released under the deal. Overhead surveillancewould monitor movement on the ground to police the pause.
The stop in fighting is also intended to allow a significant increase in the amount of humanitarian assistance, including fuel, to enter the besieged enclave from Egypt.
“We’ve made some progress recently and have been working hard to advance this, but it remains a volatile situation,” an administration official said Saturday on condition of anonymity. After this article was initially published, National Security Council spokesperson Adrienne Watson tweeted that there was “no deal yet but we continue to work hard to get a deal.”
The outline of a deal was put together during weeks of talks in Doha, Qatar, among Israel, the United States and Hamas, indirectly represented by Qatari mediators, according to Arab and other diplomats. But it remained unclear until now that Israel would agree to temporarily pause its offensive in Gaza, provided the conditions were right.
A spokesperson for the Israeli Embassy in Washington said late Saturday that “we are not going to comment” on any aspect of the hostage situation.
Concern about the captives — two of whom Israel said were found dead — along with the rising number of Palestinian civilian casualties have steadily increased pressure on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government. More than 100 countries — but, notably, not the United States — have called for a full and immediate cease-fire.
The decision to accept the deal is difficult for Israel, said one person familiar with the situation who, like others, spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss sensitive negotiations. While there is strong domestic pressure on Netanyahu to bring the hostages home, there are also loud voices in Israel demanding that the government not barter for their release.
In public remarks, Israel has remained unyielding, while acknowledging the pressure it is under. On Friday, Israeli National Security Council head Tzachi Hanegbi told reporters that the war cabinet had unanimously agreed that a limited cease-fire could occur only after “a massive release of our hostages … and it will be limited and short, because after that we will continue to work towards achieving our war goals.”
In fiery comments Saturday, Netanyahu said the offensive would continue, even as he defended a decision last week to allow the first steady fuel transfers into Gaza since the start of the war. As Israel has pursued its Gaza offensive, it has cut off all but minimal deliveries of the food, water, fuel and medicine that the enclave’s 2.3 million people depend upon for survival. “For international support to continue, humanitarian aid is essential,” he said. “Because of that, we accepted the recommendation to bring fuel into Gaza.”
Netanyahu spoke as thousands of hostage family members and their supporters ended a five-day march from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem to demand government action, with many saying that the lives of innocent Israeliswere worth any short-term deal the government has to make to secure their release.
After initial hesitation, the Biden administration, under its own domestic pressure between advocates of unstinting support for Israel’s war aims and concern over the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, has fully backed a temporary pause in the fighting.
Beginning withPresident Biden’s trip to Tel Aviv a week after the war began, and followed by multiple visits from Secretary of State Antony Blinken and other senior officials, the administration has pushed hard with Netanyahuto understand that it is losing the narrative high ground as more Palestinians die. The death toll in Gaza is now reportedly more than 11,000.
The administration’s highest priority, however, has been freeing the nine Americans and one permanent U.S. resident among the hostages. “I think we need a pause,” Biden said two weeks ago at a campaign event. “A pause means time to get the prisoners out.”
A week later, asked about reports he had pushed for a three-day stop in the fighting, Biden said he had asked Netanyahu for “an even longer pause.” In his news conference Thursday after meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping, he said that the hostages were “on our mind every single day,” and that he was working on a way to “have a period of time where there’s a pause long enough” to let them be released.
U.S. officials have said they believe a pause would allow Hamas to gather the hostages and arrangements could be made to escort them safely through the battlefield. It was not clear that the Americans or other foreigners would be included in the initial tranche of releases. The hope is that if the release of women and children is successful, other groups of captives will then follow.
Brett McGurk, the White House National Security Council’s top Middle East official, is on an extended trip to the region to try to solidify the hostage release plan, including meetings in Israel and Qatar. Speaking at an international security conference Saturday in Bahrain, McGurk said that negotiations have been “intensive and ongoing.”
The freeing several weeks ago of an American mother and daughter — among the four captives who have been released since the war began — during a brief pause to allow international humanitarian workers to escort them, provided a “track” for “what we hope will be a much larger release.”
McGurk told the conference that Hamas’s release of a “large number” of the hostages, believed to total 239, “would result in a significant pause in fighting and a massive surge of humanitarian relief. Hundreds and hundreds of trucks on a sustained basis entering Gaza from Egypt.” When the hostages are released, he said, “you will see a significant, significant change.”
It was “reasonable,” McGurk said, “to pause the fighting, release the hostages, the women, the children, the toddlers, the babies, all of them.” The initial deal does not include civilian men or Israeli military personnel, a number of whom are women, among the captives.
Those remarks drew an angry response from Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, who interpreted them as signaling that a pause allowing humanitarian relief would come only after the hostages were released unconditionally by Hamas. “There’s a lot of negotiations,” Safadi said, “but Israel is taking 2.3 million Palestinians hostage … and denying them food and water and by this war.”
An administration official said any assumption that the United States was conditioning aid on the release of hostages had “grossly misinterpreted” McGurk’s remarks. “Any type of hostage deal would likely result in an increase of humanitarian aid,” the official said. The United States, the official noted, has continuously pushed for an increase of humanitarian assistance to civilians in Gaza.
Israel, the United States and Hamas have reached a tentative agreement to free dozens of women and children held hostage in Gaza in exchange for a five-day pause in fighting, the Washington Post reported on Saturday, citing people familiar with the deal.
As part of the detailed, six-page agreement, all parties would freeze combat operations for at least five days while “an initial 50 or more hostages are released in smaller groups every 24 hours”, the Post reported. Hamas took about 240 hostages during its Oct. 7 rampage inside Israel that killed 1,200 people.
The newspaper said overhead surveillance would monitor ground movement to help police the pause, which also is intended to allow in a significant amount of humanitarian aid.
There was no immediate comment from the White House or the Israeli prime minister’s office on the Post report.
The hostage release could begin within the next several days, according to people familiar with its the agreement.

15 Russian ships destroyed in Black Sea, Ukrainian military claims
Ukraine’s military claimed it had destroyed a total of 15 Russian naval vessels in the Black Sea since the start of the war.
Another 12 had been damaged, the military said.
Dmytro Pletenchuk, a navy spokesperson, described Ukraine as the “driver of a new type of naval warfare” having forced Russia to move its naval forces into more difficult positions, as a result of attacks by Kyiv.
The military’s operations carried out in the Black Sea so far have included strikes on the Russian Black Sea Navy headquarters in Sevastopol, and the shipyard in Kerch, which damaged a vessel that had not officially joined the fleet.
Attacks have also targeted warships near annexed Crimea, including a large landing vessel and a submarine.
Ukraine’s EU membership talks ‘at risk’ after ‘reality check’ over war support
A European Union decision to launch membership talks with Ukraine are “at risk”, a senior official said.
Amid regular assurances that the EU would support Ukraine for “as long as it takes” in the face of Russian aggression, the official said the latest discussions in the bloc over further support to Kyiv were a “reality check”.
“Leaders… were realising it’s quite expensive,” they said.
The unnamed official is involved in preparing a summit in Brussels of the EU 27 member states’ national leaders from 14-15th December.
“How do we pay for this?” the official added.
In a potential further blow, the official said there is no agreement to grant Kyiv a further €50bn (£43m).
This comes after a proposal by the bloc’s executive European Commission to revise the bloc’s long-term budget to assign another €50bn for Ukraine through to 2027 was criticised from several sides.
“We cannot allow Ukraine to go bankrupt, it’s not an option for us. But it’s not easy,” the official said.
Finland provides Ukraine with new military aid package
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has thanked the president of Finland for providing Ukraine with a new military package.
The latest defence package is worth €100m (£87m).
This brings the total of military aid provided by Finland up to €1.5bn (£1.3bn).
“This support strengthens not just Ukraine but also the security of Finland and the rest of our Europe,” Mr Zelenskyy said in a statement on social media.
Thousands of citizens without electricity across Ukraine
Thousands of citizens across Ukraine are without electricity because of shelling and problems at power plants, the Ukrainian government has said today.
Some customers have also been left without gas due to the conflict.
Here is a breakdown of the situation in the different regions across the country:
More than 28,000 customers were cut off from electricity supply due to shelling in Kherson, the Ukrainian government said.
The government added more than 700 customers remain without power due to flooding caused by the explosion at the Kakhovka Dam back in June.
Around 122 settlements remain without power in this eastern region, the government said.
More than 17,600 customers remain without power in the region.
Power companies have restored electricity to 950 customers overnight.
Residents of one of the villages bordering Russia were also left without gas after a medium-pressure gas distribution pipeline was damaged.
Around 150 customers are without gas supply due to damage to gas equipment by a car.
Another 85 customers are without natural gas for technical reasons.
More than 13,000 customers were left without electricity in the region.
In addition, 1,000 customers remain disconnected. Power companies were able to restore electricity to 14,600 customers over the course of today.
Territorial map released by UK’s Ministry of Defence
The UK’s Ministry of Defence has today released an up-to-date territorial map of the situation in Ukraine.
It labels the locations where Russian forces have grouped, where Ukrainian troops are likely to attack and the territory taken by Russia since last year.
Ukrainian power plants need missile defence systems to operate safely – energy company boss
Ukraine’s largest private energy company has said its power plants need more missile defence systems to operate safely, according to its CEO.
“We cannot protect ourselves against ballistic missiles if we don’t have air defence systems,” Maxim Timchenko, CEO of DTEK, said today.
Hundreds of transformers, miles of cables and thousands of diesel generators have been supplied to Ukraine from Europe and members of the Soviet Union and the ex-Communist bloc since the start of the war.
This has provided critical light and heat to the country throughout winter, when temperatures regularly fall below freezing.
“I know that our president and our government have been doing everything that they can to bring the message that we need this equipment to protect our energy system,” Mr Timchenko said.
Every one of DTEK’s 13 power stations supplies energy to more than seven million Ukrainian families.
Each has come under fire from Russia, which has targeted the country’s power grid.
As a result 50% of the company’s capacity has been damaged, destroyed or occupied, causing blackouts, Mr Timchenko said.
Power units in eight out of the 13 stations have been restored and two are under repair.
In pictures: Russian delegation leaves North Korea
Earlier this week, we reported that Alexander Kozlov, Russia’s natural resources minister, was in North Korea.
During his visit, he held talks with Tok Hun, North Korea’s prime minister.
It comes as Moscow and Pyongyang have been stepping up cooperation following their leaders’ summit in September.
Having arrived in North Korea on Tuesday, Mr Kozlov and other Russian senior officials were pictured leaving the country last night.
The two countries have denied accusations from the US that they have agreed an arms deal for use in the war in Ukraine.
‘Big mistake’: Kremlin responds to Finland barricading crossings
Following on from our post below, the Kremlin has accused Finland of choosing a path of confrontation with Russia.
In reaction to Finland planning to put barricades at four crossings on its shared border, Dmitry Peskov, Kremlin spokesperson, said the country was making a “big mistake”.
Helsinki claims Moscow is to blame for an influx of migrants as tensions between the two countries deteriorated after Finland joined NATO.
“(One can) only express deep regret that the Finnish authorities have taken the path of destroying bilateral relations,” Russian state news agency TASS quoted Mr Peskov as saying.
He said the two countries always had mutually beneficial and respectful relations.
“Russia has never in modern history threatened Finland, we had no reason for any confrontation. Now they have chosen this path. From our point of view, this is a big mistake,” he said.
Finland to block border crossings to stop migrants ‘sent by Russia’
Finland has said it will place barriers at four crossings on its border with Russia from midnight.
It comes after the country accused Russian authorities of funnelling migrants to the crossing in retaliation for its decision to increase defence cooperation with the US.
The Kremlin firmly denies the accusation.
The Finnish Border Guard said barriers will go up at four of the nine crossings, to “prevent entry”.
Some 300 asylum seekers, mostly from Iraq, Yemen, Somalia and Syria, have arrived in Finland this week, according to the Border Guard.
Nearly 100 of those had entered from Russia by midday today alone, according to officials.
From Saturday asylum seekers arriving via Russia will only be allowed to hand in their applications at two northern border crossings, at Salla and Vartius, Matti Pitkaniitty, Border Guard’s head of international affairs, said.
Yesterday, Ursula von der Leyen, European Commission president, thanked the Finnish authorities for protecting the bloc’s external border.
“Russia’s instrumentalisation of migrants is shameful,” she said.
The border crossings set to be blocked at midnight include:
Vaalimaa
Nuijamaa
Imatra

Zelenskyy praises ‘strength’ of Ukrainian troops on river bank
Volodymyr Zelenskyy has released images of Ukrainian troops on the banks of the Dnipro river.
In a post on X, formely Twitter, the Ukrainian president thanked them for “their strength and for moving forward”.
Earlier today, the Ukrainian Marines said they had a series of successes in the territory, had established several bridgeheads and carried out more operations on the eastern side of the river.
Andriy Kovalyov, general staff spokesperson, said troops managed to “knock out” Russians from their positions on the left bank of the river and consolidate there.
“One of the main goals of this combat work is to push the enemy as far as possible from the right bank to protect the Ukrainian civilian population, in particular Kherson, from constant Russian shelling,” he said.
Russia has made no immediate statements in reaction to the Ukrainian reports today.
Police were stumped when ‘crashed’ plane was found in remote Yukon, but it was placed there last summer for rescue training
When a hunter in British Columbia stumbled upon the crumpled remains of an airplane fuselage on 3 November, he reported the grim findings to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP).
Officers were dispatched to the remote crash site to survey the wreckage and concluded that the shell of the bush plane, with no motor, wings, doors or seats, was likely more than two decades old.
Russian soldiers have been stripped nearly naked and placed in a pit for refusing to fight. (Image: @wartranslated/X)
Russian soldiers have been pictured stripped nearly naked and forced into a pit near the frontlines in Ukraine exposing chaos among Vladimir Putin’s forces.
WarTranslated, an independent media project that translates content about the Russia-Ukraine war to English, posted a clip on X (formerly Twitter) that showed the soldiers in a pit.
Captions on the video, translated by the organisation, purportedly come from the spouse of one of the men in the video.
The reason given for the bizarre punishment was that the soldiers refused to fight without proper equipment. The video could not be independently verified.
According to WarTranslated, a soldier in the pit said that his commander told the lot that in order “to get out, they need to pay up 400,000 rubles (around £3,500). These particular men spent four nights in the pit completely naked.”
Russian servicemen are stripped naked and put into pits for refusing to go into meat assault without proper equipment. To get out, they need to pay up 400k rubles. These particular men spent 4 nights in the pit completely naked.
The account added: “Russian servicemen are stripped naked and put into pits for refusing to go into meat assault without proper equipment. To get out, they need to pay up to 400,000 rubles.”
War Translated added that the soldiers can be thrown in the pit for no reason if “leadership doesn’t like them,” citing one soldier’s wife.
It added: “Likewise, she said that to go on leave, one needs to pay the officers 200,000 rubles in cash. Otherwise, they’ll never leave the zero line.”
Zero line is a term often used in Russia to describe the very frontline or the battlefield. At the end of the video, the captions say the soldiers could even be buried alive in the pit.
This isn’t the first time Russian soldiers have been recorded refusing to fight. Putin’s generals have begun using so-called Storm Z units to attack in human waves at the front where they suffer huge casualties.
These units are often made of released prisoners or soldiers who refused to fight or were facing disciplinary action.
The news comes as Russia presses attacks in eastern Ukraine, suffering heavy casualties for little territorial gain. Since mid-October, Kyiv has noted the ferocity of the attacks around the destroyed settlement of Andriivka.
Türkiye is now engaging in intense diplomatic efforts to end the Israeli blockade that is causing a significant humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has said, while also stressing that there are other ways to end the siege if diplomatic channels prove ineffective.
The Russian Federation is unlikely to disintegrate the way the USSR did, Andrey Yakovlev says. The non-Russian autonomies simply don’t occupy the position now that the union republics did in 1991, and the Russian regions are certain that they would lose more than gain if they sought to go their own way.
Unfortunately, Yakovlev says, the US and the EU have not figured out what to do with Russia even if it loses in Ukraine and have not recognized that if things are left where they are today, Moscow will seek to take revenge and because of its nuclear stockpile will have more freedom of action than anyone wants to move against other targets, including Europe.
Moreover, up to now, the West has failed to understand two key realities: the future will be made at least in part by those who are part of the Putin regime, and the opposition to them will not have a chance to succeed unless there are clear signals from the West about what they and Russia will gain if the war in Ukraine ends and Moscow changes course.
“If Western politicians do not begin to think about what will happen next, then there will be no reason to count on good variants in Russia,” Yakovlev argues. And the longer the West puts off such a formulation of a strategic vision for Rusia, “the greater the probability of very bad scenarios regarding security in Europe.”
Everyone needs to understand that “in the Russian elite are not only sane people but also players like the late Prigozhin;” and the numbers of the latter may increase in the event of chaos or a radical shift without clear preparation by the West. Moscow may try to salvage the situation by moving in the direction of North Korea, but that only delays but does not prevent chaos.
According to Yakovlev, the Russian economy has sufficient resources to last for another two years before some kind of crash; but he says that he has a bad feeling that “the cut-off point will take place in March 2024. Before the elections, there likely won’t be any obvious repressions against the current elite or any military escalation. But after that …”
After the voting, with what he believes is a new mandate and expects to face declining Western support for Ukraine, Putin will try to take Kyiv and use a new mobilization at home to do it, the analyst says, steps that will likely be accompanied by significant changes in the elite and the redistribution of property.
Unless the West gives a clear signal to the “sane” part of the Russian elite that it will lift sanctions if the latter take certain steps, the chances that they will move against Putin and his plans will remain small, putting Russia on course to repression and then collapse and violence, Yakovlev continues.
What is especially important here is that Yakovlev says what few others do: the threat that Russia will fall into chaos and civil war will come not from national or regional secession efforts but because of the inherent problems of the Putin system and conflicts within it over power and property.
The lookouts were telling their commanders they were witnessing unusual activity along the border for months, but they were ignored, told to stop bothering them, and even threatened, The Jerusalem Post reported via Israeli news station N12.
Some of the activity the lookouts witnessed included unusual training protocols and more people lingering near the fence, per the outlet.
One lookout informed their senior commander, the report said, but was rebuffed.
“I don’t want to hear again about this nonsense,” they reported being told. “If you all bother us again with these things, you’ll be court-martialed.”
Previous reports stated commanders told their lookouts Hamas were “just a bunch of punks” who wouldn’t “do anything” when they reported what they had seen.
“A day before everything happened, I saw people with maps,” one lookout told N12, per J Post. “They were looking at the fence and pointing at it. I told everyone: ‘Listen, something is going to happen. I see them planning things.’ I noticed that something was different on the front. I even told the person next to me in jest: ‘Listen, they’re going to storm our post.’ It just looked different.”
Other lookouts reported seeing the same drills over and over: shooting, laying on the ground, then throwing grenades.
“In the end, that’s what happened to me,” they said. “They shot at me, threw grenades at me.”
N12 also reported the lookouts who were present on October 7 were not receiving any psychological assistance from the army and were even told they would be transferred if they didn’t return to service within two weeks.
In response, the military told the outlet that soldiers were accompanied “closely and sensitively” by mental health professionals.
“Their return to duty will be accompanied gradually, sensitively, and according to each one’s condition,” the spokesperson said. “There is no intention of taking disciplinary measures against them. If there were conversations that reflect otherwise, then they are against the guidelines and will be handled accordingly.”
Hikmet Hajiyev – assistant for the foreign policy of the president of Azerbaijan in his interview with euroreporter.co said that Azerbaijan wants regional security, according to Azerbaijan in Focus, reporting Turan.
“We want to build a new regional security architecture based on justice, recognizing each other’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, and ending all territorial claims.
First, peace and regional security are not in Brussels, Paris, Washington, or anywhere. Peace is in the region.”
Some in the European Parliament feel Azerbaijanophobia or Islamophobia toward Azerbaijan. The European Council recently made a statement criticizing Azerbaijan, which we find unnecessary. European institutions never treated Azerbaijan fairly while its territory was occupied, he added.
”For years, there was one approach toward separatist entities in Georgia, Moldova, and Ukraine, but another against Azerbaijan.”
He added that “some EU member countries, like France, have started a militarisation program in Armenia.”
He noted that France is sending Armenia missile-capable military armed personnel carriers.
“We consistently warned member states like France not to support separatism in Azerbaijan’s territory. Second, don’t promote Armenian revanchism or geopolitical games in our region. Unfortunately, this is true.”
“We think that this is a historical opportunity and a historical momentum and that appropriate European institutions should also be part of the solution, not the problem, to advance a peaceful agenda in the region”, – he concluded.
In a statement made on November 18 during the autumn session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly in Yerevan, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan revealed that Armenia and Azerbaijan have reached a consensus on the fundamental principles of a peace agreement, according to Azerbaijan in Focus, reporting Turan. Pashinyan acknowledged both positive and negative developments in the Armenian-Azerbaijani peace process.
On a positive note, he disclosed that the two nations have agreed on key peace principles, thanks in part to the mediation efforts of European Council head Charles Michel and Pashinyan’s meetings with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev in Brussels. According to Pashinyan, the first principle involves mutual recognition of territorial integrity, specifying Armenia’s territory as 29.8 thousand square kilometers and Azerbaijan’s as 86.6 thousand square kilometers. The second principle is rooted in the 1991 Alma-Ata Declaration, serving as the political foundation for border delineation between Armenia and Azerbaijan, based on maps from the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the former USSR from 1974 to 1990.
Pashinyan also emphasized the third principle, which focuses on the reopening of regional communications, guided by principles such as sovereignty, jurisdiction, reciprocity, and equality among the countries involved.
However, Pashinyan expressed concerns about the persisting challenge of communication between the two nations due to differing diplomatic approaches and a history of conflict, casualties, prisoners, longstanding animosity, and suspicions of hidden agendas. He noted that these challenges apply to both Armenia and Azerbaijan to varying degrees.

Wilhelm Richard Wagner (22 May 1813 – 13 February 1883) was a German composer, theatre director, polemicist, and conductor who is chiefly known for his operas (or, as some of his later works were later known, “music dramas”). Unlike most opera composers, Wagner wrote both the libretto and the music for each of his stage works. Initially establishing his reputation as a composer of works in the romantic vein of Carl Maria von Weber and Giacomo Meyerbeer, Wagner revolutionised opera through his concept of the Gesamtkunstwerk (“total work of art”), by which he sought to synthesise the poetic, visual, musical and dramatic arts, with music subsidiary to drama. He described this vision in a series of essays published between 1849 and 1852. Wagner realised these ideas most fully in the first half of the four-opera cycle Der Ring des Nibelungen (The Ring of the Nibelung).
His compositions, particularly those of his later period, are notable for their complex textures, rich harmonies and orchestration, and the elaborate use of leitmotifs—musical phrases associated with individual characters, places, ideas, or plot elements. His advances in musical language, such as extreme chromaticism and quickly shifting tonal centres, greatly influenced the development of classical music. His Tristan und Isolde is sometimes described as marking the start of modern music.
Wagner had his own opera house built, the Bayreuth Festspielhaus, which embodied many novel design features. The Ring and Parsifal were premiered here and his most important stage works continue to be performed at the annual Bayreuth Festival, run by his descendants. His thoughts on the relative contributions of music and drama in opera were to change again, and he reintroduced some traditional forms into his last few stage works, including Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg (The Mastersingers of Nuremberg).
Until his final years, Wagner’s life was characterised by political exile, turbulent love affairs, poverty and repeated flight from his creditors. His controversial writings on music, drama and politics have attracted extensive comment, notably, since the late 20th century, where they express antisemitic sentiments. The effect of his ideas can be traced in many of the arts throughout the 20th century; his influence spread beyond composition into conducting, philosophy, literature, the visual arts and theatre.
