🇷🇺🇪🇸🇫🇷 U.S. intelligence has reportedly warned that Russia could launch drone strikes on Spain, France and Italy from merchant ships in the Mediterranean.
U.S. agencies allegedly put together a detailed report on the possible operation, which would see Russian drones hidden in cargo containers and launched from international waters, roughly 125 to 190 miles offshore.
The drones reportedly carry enough to start fires, damage equipment or temporarily shut down a port or airport. No specific targets were named.
France seems to be taking it seriously. Macron convened his Defense Council on Sept 16, then summoned the leaders of every political party to the Élysée 2 days later.
Poland’s Tusk has also admitted receiving a warning about Russian attacks on countries arming Ukraine.
The Czech Republic’s spy chief says a Russian incursion on NATO territory could come in “months, not years,” though Latvia’s security service says it sees no signs of an imminent attack.
Europe was already watching its eastern border, and now it might need to watch the horizon too.

The CIA warned European governments of a possible Russian drone attack on Spain, France, or Italy
American intelligence gathered information that Russia is preparing such an attack on one of those Mediterranean countries and shared it with several European governments.
Drones could be launched from the sea, hidden in containers on a ship. A source close to Lithuania’s Defense Ministry said the type is a Gerbera: up to 18 kg, with a declared range up to 600 km. One merchant vessel can carry several.
Lithuania and other countries received the information shortly after CIA Director John Ratcliffe’s trip to Moscow on August 25. Ratcliffe arrived on a US military plane that stopped in Riga.

The US invited Vladimir Putin to attend the G20 summit in Miami this December, Secretary of State Marco Rubio said.
