🚨 GERMANY’S FORMER SPY CHIEF ARRESTED — 2,000 CLASSIFIED DOCUMENTS, TREASON ALLEGATIONS AND AN UNNAMED FOREIGN SERVICE
Germany has been rocked by one of its biggest intelligence scandals in decades.
Former BND chief August Hanning has been arrested on suspicion of treasonous espionage, obtaining state secrets, attempted treason and espionage.
Hanning ran Germany’s foreign intelligence service from 1998 to 2005.
Prosecutors allege that years after leaving office, he began receiving confidential intelligence from a former BND office manager in exchange for payment.
That former official, identified as Manfred D., has also been arrested.
Investigators say around 2,000 classified documents were supplied over a period of years.
The material reportedly included internal BND documents and intelligence briefings prepared for senior German government officials.
And it gets more serious.
Prosecutors allege that Hanning used classified material to prepare an assessment intended for an officer of a foreign intelligence service.
That service has not been publicly named.
So the question now is unavoidable:
WHO WAS THE CUSTOMER?
And what exactly did they receive?
If the allegations are proven, this is not simply one retired intelligence chief behaving improperly.
It raises much bigger questions about the security of Germany’s intelligence system, what allied information may have been exposed, and how long this activity went undetected.
Hanning has not been convicted.
But this case could become one of Germany’s most serious intelligence breaches since the Cold War.
